Community Volunteerism

Learning through experiencing life

Adults learn best when they are actively engaged in activities that are personally meaningful. To be valued and accepted as citizens of their communities is a strong desire of the people we serve.

Last year, Tierra’s participants contributed more than 30,000 hours in volunteer service in community based organizations where their help was valued and needed. These hours were spent in service to other people in need, such as the poor, the homeless, the lonely, the elderly, and the sick. This volunteer effort represents an excellent environment to teach and learn new skills and perform vital tasks.

Stocking food pantries, delivering meals to homebound seniors and providing child care assistance are not activities to “pass the time”...they are rewarding experiences upon which to build a true place in our society. Our community responds with gratitude for jobs well done.
