Celebrating Careers in the Arts!
“Like a firefly, I need other fireflies to light up around me and cause me to glow too. Together we can illuminate the world.”
– Lexington Sherbin, Tierra del Sol Studio Artist
Tierra’s arts programs began back in 1988, and a year later, our gallery was established in 1989. For over three decades, Sunland Studio Arts and Upland Art Studios have focused on the cultivation of artistic expression and the professional development of each Careers in the Arts associate. In our studios, people with disabilities create unique and powerful works, and through their art, we hear their voices and see their stories come to life.
Did you know that…
120 Tierra artists are career artists. From Okinawa, Japan, to Cork, Ireland, and all across the US, Tierra artists are exhibiting their works locally, nationally, and globally.
Since the 1970s, Tierra has offered classes that teach sewing and embroidery skills and techniques. Over the years,
these classes have evolved and now include weaving and punch needle rug hooking!

Tierra’s Gallery, located in the historic Chinatown district of LA, focuses on showing works created by artists in our studios. Aand all gallery art sales go directly to supporting the artists and Tierra’s Careers in the Arts programs. To check out our current show, Keep On Trucking, featuring works by the talented Douglas Allen, visit, tierradelsolgallery.org.
