Tierra del Sol Gallery is proud to present Space is the Place\, a group exhibition cura ted by Los Angeles-based artist Alison Saar. This is Saar’s first guest cu rator project with the gallery\, and she has selected works by 19 artists from the Sunland and Upland studios.
\nSpace is the Place i s an iconic\, Afrofuturist film and album by legendary Sun Ra. Saar’s work \, while grounded in history\, leans toward the cosmic and ethereal to inv estigate through lines of identity and place. She is influenced by Sun Ra’ s music and celestial imagery\, noting his defining quip “I dared to knock at the door of the cosmos.” She uses that vision as a curatorial portal f or this exhibition and in her encounters with Tierra artists.
\nSaar is a multi-media artist who uses whatever tools and materials she needs t o build her visual language. Similarly\, for this exhibition\, she brings into conversation a diverse selection of vibrantly colored paintings\, dra wings\, tapestry\, sculptures and assemblages that focus on galactic and e arthly landscapes\, as well as strong figures and structures that speak to dimensionality and movement. The otherworldliness of nearly 50 thematic w orks by 19 artists feels like vibing with something greater than the combi nation of artists\, intentions and materials. Together these works are an experience with the speculative\, an immersive journey through time and sp ace where the perspective is as much about a willingness to be in the full ness of the moment as an aesthetic point of view. \nThe journey is symbolic for Tierra del Sol Gallery\, as Alison Saar’s Space in the Place is the last exhibition in the Chinatown galle ry. The new location on Santa Monica Boulevard is an amalgamation of histo ry\, movement and visual theatre. Space in the Place expands Tier ra’s geographic and demographic terrain and highlights the organization vi sion and momentum to recognize that regardless of disability or ability\, all people can live lives of meaning and creativity to contribute to the g reater good.

Bazaar the s how celebrates and highlights the diverse interests and genres of artists at both the Upland and Sunland Studios.
\nThis year\, Tierra del Sol gallery director Paige Wery selected one work from each artist\, and from these found common themes that together playfully suggest a marketplace o f delights. Bazaar Bazaar offers visitors an immersive experience that eng ages multiple senses\, from tactile ceramics and textiles to colorful wate rcolors\, portraits and landscapes.
\nAs gallery director\, Wery doe sn’t dictate or guide Tierra del Sol artists’ practices\, and this exhibit ion demonstrates the same model of studio-to-gallery relationships that bu ilt and maintain the art canon. Encountering the sublime and bringing that experience into the public imagination is exemplified in this year’s grou p show\, while breaking the boundaries of the canon to include those once considered outsiders. With vivid urgency and tender reverence\, Clende ning paints what she calls “a meaning to the word nature.” Her works on pa per are alive\, infused with an unruly wilderness expertly rendered in cha otic brushstrokes.
\nNature is Calling to Us is abundant wi th offerings and outcry. This is art as praise and protest\, a call to pro tect what remains. “Nature is calling to us\, really calling\,” Clendening says. “And when you hear her voice in the wind\, or in the rain\, in the storm—she is calling and you hear her. She’s right in front of you.”

\nThe Sensory friendly show is Sunday April 23 at 2pm. A Sensory Friendly performance is a theater production that wel comes individuals with sensory needs\, including people on the autism spec trum\, as well as first-time theatergoers and young children. The show is modified to allow for patron movement\, staff and actors are trained to ac commodate patron needs\, and all patrons are welcome to experience theater in a safe\, non-judgmental environment.

Tier ra del Sol Gallery is excited to present Sarit Halo: It’s a Colorful W orld\, the artist’s debut solo exhibition. Halo merges world s of memory and imagination in colorful mixed media portraits\, interiors and landscapes. To create these playful yet serene works\, Halo draws insp iration from source materials\, searching for patterns and poses that she makes her own by adding elements from her dreams\, faces from her communit y and distant villages from stories of her family’s life as Persian Jewish immigrants to the US. Halo’s figurative lens verges on abstraction while focusing on her relationship to her subjects\, she wants her art to remind the viewer of interactions and moments with their own family.
\nIt’s a Colorful World opens July 8 and runs through September 2\, 20 23. Join us in celebrating Halo’s extensive body of work in her first solo show on July 8\, 6-8pm.

Please join us for this month’s Tierra Parent Forum\, featuring spe cial guest speaker\, Dr. Rebecca Lienhard\, Tierra’s Chief Executive Offic er\, career and policy advocate for all people with developmental disabili ties.
\nDr. Rebecca Lienhard joined Tierra in 1990. Over the course of her tenure\, she has championed inclusion and value for people with dis abilities through their unique contributions to our communities. She holds a doctorate degree from the University of Southern California in Organiza tion Change and Leadership\, a Master’s degree in Special Education\, with emphasis in Moderate/Severe Disabilities and is a graduate of the Univers ity of Delaware National Leadership Institute on Developmental Disabilitie s.
\nDr. Lienhard serves as the key spokesperson for the agency in l ocal\, state\, and national venues. She has served on the Vendor Advisory Committee for the California Department of Developmental Services’ North L os Angeles County Regional Center\, the State Council on Developmental Dis abilities’ Employment First Committee\, and as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Southern California APSE (Association of People Supporti ng Employment First). Additionally\, she serves as a member of three of Ca lifornia’s Department of Developmental Services Workgroups\, specifically focusing on Employment\, System & Fiscal Reform\, and Community Resources. Through these roles\, she has gained a nation-wide view of services\, rel evant laws\, and emerging trends\; all in an effort to advance meaningful and inclusive lives for adults with developmental disabilities
