Friday, August 10, 2023, Tierra celebrated with our Workforce Development partners at Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena for the opening reception for Superheroes! – Art, Ability & Possibility.  The exhibition, which was curated by jill moniz, phd., features new paper, textile, and ceramic works by ten artists from Tierra’s Careers in the Arts program.

Lisa Clements, Kidspace CEO, welcomed artists, families, supporters, and staff with an inspirational message about what it means to be a superhero and shared, “There are two things about superheroes. Number one, they are not just good themselves, but they are committed to fighting for and advocating for social justice and good in the world.  The second one is, they are different. […] And, superheros understand that they’re difference is what makes them extraordinary. […] This show is really special because it came about thanks to our workforce development partnership with Tierra.  Tierra associates work with integrity, joy, and a commitment to all the children in the community.  If any of you [businesses] want to work with Tierra and try the Paid Internship Program (PIP) or could consider hiring one of the Tierra associates, you should.  It has enriched our community and our visitors’ experience.”

Additionally, Ann Marie Hickambottom, Field Representative for Assemblymember Chris Holden district 41, presented a certificate of recognition to both Kidspace and Tierra for “celebrating the creativity, imagination, and vision of the expressive work brought by Tierra del Sol artists to this partnership with Kidspace museum, which brings employment opportunity to those whose talents and skills are often overlooked.”

Congratulations to all the Talented artists featured in this exhibition and our deepest thanks to Kidspace Museum, jill moniz, and Assemblymember Holden for supporting Tierra’s mission and helping us change the way the world sees people with disabilities
