Tierra Volunteers at Holy Rosary Grade School

 In Blog, Workforce Development

For more than two decades, Tierra clients have volunteered at Holy Rosary Catholic Church’s Food Pantry in Pacoima, where they’ve helped serve donated food to hundreds of needy individuals.

Last year, upon learning of Tierra’s mission to get more volunteers immersed in the community, Holy Rosary Grade School invited Tierra Coach, Dora Rocha, to speak at the annual parent/teacher meeting. The families and community members embraced the idea of having additional Tierra volunteers work at the school.

Holy Rosary’s motto of “everyone is different, expect it, accept it, respect it,” aligned closely with Tierra’s values, and a new relationship began!

The Tierra team of Halan Contreras, Adan Castro and Omar Saca, clean and organize the classrooms for the elementary school children five days a week. “Sister Rebecca, the Principal, teachers, and office staff have had nothing but good things to say about this hardworking team. And, the children love them too,” shares Dora.

When asked what he liked best about volunteering at Holy Rosary, Adan Castro said, “The teachers and kids like me and I love working here with them.  I am very happy.”
