CalABLE is a savings and investment program that allows individuals with a disability to save and invest without losing eligibility for certain means-tested public benefits programs such as MediCal and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Earning in a CalABLE account are not subject to federal or California state income tax as long as the money is used for Qualified Disability Expenses. CalABLE can support the financial well-being of people with disabilities to provide for themselves and their families. CalABLE allows individuals with disabilities to maintain public benefit status even while saving above the established resource limits.
Join the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), and National Task Group for Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices (NTG) for a panel about Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dr. Brian Chicoine, Dr. Seth Keller, and Amy Kolb-Tucker will discuss the barriers that adults with Down syndrome face in Alzheimer’s diagnosis/treatment, such as lack of access to knowledgeable healthcare providers. They will also provide practical tips and opportunities for families and healthcare providers to navigate and begin to address those barriers.

The time is NOW for the disability community to join forces, get loud, be seen, be heard and demonstrate the power of our collective voice. We encourage disability rights advocates and allies to attend the May 22 “Keep the Promise” rally to make sure our elected officials understand the importance of protecting disability services in federal and state budgets.
